The truth is, neither [Bush nor Kerry] is fully reckoning with the reality of Iraq — which is that the insurgents, by most accounts, are winning. Even Secretary of State Colin Powell, a former general who stays in touch with the Joint Chiefs, has acknowledged this privately to friends in recent weeks, Newsweek has learned. The insurgents have effectively created a reign of terror throughout the country, killing thousands, driving Iraqi elites and technocrats into exile and scaring foreigners out. "Things are getting really bad," a senior Iraqi official in interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's government told Newsweek last week. "The initiative is in [the insurgents'] hands right now. This approach of being lenient and accommodating has really backfired. They see this as weakness."
....Just as worrisome, the insurgents have managed to infiltrate Iraqi forces, enabling them to gain key intelligence. "The infiltration is all over, from the top to the bottom, from decision making to the lower levels," says the senior Iraqi official. In the Kirkush incident, the insurgents almost certainly had inside information about the departure time and route of the buses. Iraqi Ministry of Defense sources told Newseeek the Iraqi recruits had not been allowed to leave the base with their weapons because American trainers were worried that some of them might defect.
What you fail to recognize is when soveriegnty was handed over to the Iraqi's then that put Ayad Allawi in charge of what happens in Iraq. We at this point are to help them when they request it and when they want us to cease fire that is what we have to do diplomatically. Would it do the US any good to reject the decissions of a new born Iraqi Government. Not just no, but HELL NO. We allowed Allawi to try to reach diplomatic means with this murderers, although any US troop just as soon kill them now and sort it out later.
As Allawi stated in the article you posted he has finally realized:
"This approach of being lenient and accommodating has really backfired. They see this as weakness."
We already knew that. Do you really think that if Iraqi Governament wasn't already given soveriegnty and major combat operations weren't announced as over that our troops wouldn't have taken out Fallujah long ago? If you say NO then you didn't watch the war very closely to see our great MEN & WOMEN in action.
What saddens me about both Democrats and Republicans is this war is not between the two parties. This war is the USA against those who want to kill us. Had this been a Democrat President in the house I would STILL be backing him as I am Bush now. It's US against THEM. Americans no matter what party affiliation we are in MUST stay as UNITED as we were when they attacked our homeland. The Patriotism in this country was at it's highest HIGH! All Americans no matter what party affiliation cheered eachother for being AMERICANS.
I am not saying we agree on every issue. I am saying we disagree amoung are selves if we must, but in the face of the enemy we MUST be United. I don't give a sh*t who this UBL tape helps, I care that he has the nerve to show his face to the American (Democrats & Republicans)people with his rhetoric. He killed both Democrats, Republicans, Independants, Libertarians etc. in the Twin Towers. Why don't ALL parties REBUKE him and go on to other issues rather then play the politcal game with America's worst enemy giving him more viewing time then he deserves?
He wouldn't care if it was me (Republican) or you Jeffraham Prestonian (Democrat) all that matters to him is we are American's.
Moni, you've been punk'd. I didn't post the article to which you respond. It was someone who delights in using my name, althought I'm not sure why. Perhaps they think I'm a very credible commentator, and want their writings to be considered as if I had written them.

Bush will win and Kerry will disappear into obscurity like Gore......etc....Maybe he can get a job at Walmart when its all over.....Im sure he'll have to get his wifes approval first though!
Jeffraham Prestonian - Good for you, you have 1 little person in your fan club. I'm happy for you that should make you feel important. Or was it you that got Punk'd by someone stealing your name.

Moni -- Oh, NOW I get it -- you were all steamy because it was YOU that ripped my handle, in order to come back and cleverly refute the points you wanted everyone to think ***I*** made! Oh, you are naughty.

We cried when we saw the tape on Friday of Osama Bin Laden. He's tanned and healthy. He does not look desperate or scared. He does not look like a man on the run.
Three years ago, President Bush promised us he would capture Osama Bin Laden--Dead or Alive. He didn't do that.
The man that murdered our husbands, is back terrorizing our country again. The videotape of him has brought us back to 9/11. We feel threatened. We feel vulnerable. We are scared.
Our question to President Bush is: Why didn't you catch him when you promised us you would? Why is this mass murderer--this madman-- still out there making videotapes and terrorizing our country three years after you promised our country that you would make us safe from him? President Bush, why cant you keep us safe from this madmen?
Clinton had from 1993 to 2000 to kill OBL and didn't. Don't blame Bush for not having caught him in 3 years.
Clinton didn't find Eric Rudolf who ran around in the US for 7 years.
Clinton didn't stop the Oklahoma bombing and that terrorist was a domestic terrorist.
Don't blame Bush for something that Clinton didn't do. And today we have lower unemployment right now then the US had in 1996 when Clinton was re-elected. And Clinton only had a 39% approval rating. Bush's is just about at 50%.
You Democrats put an immoral guy like Clinton on a pedestal. In reality, Bush has more closely held to his oath of office than Clinton. Read it some time.
President Allawi is a good, God-fearing manly man, and the democratically-appointed CIA-puppet provisional leader of the newest putative democracy on the planet.
He deserves your allegiance and obeisance until a Supreme Court can be vetted and installed to dictate the results of the impending sham elections. And no, the minutes of the secret oil Ministry meetings will NOT be made public, any more than they are when Dick holds them here.
The only hope is a total Bush blowout. I went to the rally in Tampa and took quite a few pics 10/31/04 Legions Field Tampa, FL Bush Rally Photo Essay http://docweasel.com/clean3.html
Some headlines to ponder. I THINK Bush will win, but in order to counteract the following information, we really need to get Republicans to the inner-city polls to disrupt the black and hispanic and youth votes. Contact your local GOP headquarters for information on how to keep voter turnout low in Dem areas!
Zogby poll: cell phone users favor Kerry 55-40. Poll was of 6000 and margin of error was 1.2
According to the Des Moines Register poll out late Saturday evening, 27% of Minnesota adults have already voted. And among those Kerry leads 52% to 41%.
According to Gallup: 30% of registered voters in Florida have already voted, either through early voting or by absentee. Of those who have already voted, Kerry leads President Bush 51% to 43%.
Three years ago, President Bush promised us he would capture Osama Bin Laden--Dead or Alive. He didn't do that....
President Bush has been trying to capture OBL, anyone who doesn't think so is just childish. Haven't you ever made a promise that you weren't able to keep in someone elses timeframe? He is trying the best he can, that is all a grownup can expect. Impatient children expect things to happen as soon as they want and don't appreciate the effort. I'm sure there are things going on behind the scenes that we average citizens aren't aware of. And the pro-Kerry media wouldn't report anyway.
--
Two federal judges on Monday barred political parties' challengers from polling places throughout Ohio. State Republicans planned to appeal.
An order by U.S. District Judge Susan Dlott of Cincinnati found that the application of Ohio's statute allowing challengers at polling places was unconstitutional.
U.S. District Judge John Adams of Akron said poll workers are the ones to determine if voters are eligible.
"In light of these extraordinary circumstances, and the contentious nature of the imminent election, the court cannot and must not turn a blind eye to the substantial likelihood that significant harm will result not only to voters, but also to the voting process itself, if appointed challengers are permitted at the polls," Adams said.

This is getting absurd. Dems have a memo found that says, "Even if no voter suppresion found claim it anyway." And you all want to say the republicans are trying to suppress the vote? Four years ago Gore was trying to keep out military votes! We have soooo much information telling us the dems are the ones suppressing votes but the liberal press isn't going to report THAT!!!!!! As for OBL, he isn't terrorising our country. We haven't been attacked since 9/11 thanks to Bush and his response. People are helping him hide and the country is HUGE. It has all kinds of places to hide and it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. However, I do believe that we will find him. It's just a matter of time. Be patient and remember, we have not been hit by terrorists since 9/11. Thank you George Bush for responding is a way that makes us safer.

LDS Laura - Please share this wealth of information you have about Democratic voter suppression.
Here is just a few Republicans I found in a 5 minute search yesterday.
In a letter, Berkeley County clerk John Smalls cites calls from a cell phone were made to Eastern Panhandle democrats telling them that they were not registered to vote.

In Ohio, check out this letter sent from the Lake County (Painesville) Board of Election to newly registered Democrats:
